Summary:
The Summer Component Upward Bound Instructor is pivotal in providing educational support and guidance to high school students as part of the Upward Bound program.
This program is designed to help underprivileged and first-generation college-bound students excel academically and prepare for higher education.
The Summer Component Upward Bound Instructor - Physics is responsible for planning and delivering engaging educational activities, fostering a supportive learning environment, and assisting students in their personal and academic development during the summer component of the program.
This Summer Component Upward Bound Instructor position is a temporary role during the summer component of the Upward Bound program.
It provides a valuable opportunity to positively impact students' educational and personal development who need additional support to pursue higher education.
The academic portion of the Upward Bound Summer Component begins June 10, 2024, and ends July 11, 2024, with academic instruction taking place Monday through Thursday 1:

Position
Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver educational lessons, workshops, and activities that align with the academic needs and goals of Upward Bound students.
Create a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that encourages active student participation, critical thinking, and collaboration.
Mentor and guide students to help them develop their academic and personal skills, emphasizing college readiness.
Assist students in setting and achieving academic goals through classroom management and instruction.
Collaborate with other Upward Bound staff to monitor and assess student progress and identify areas for improvement.
Provide academic support and tutoring in various subjects, including math, science, English, and other relevant coursework.
Potential to collaborate and plan cultural enrichment activities tied to curriculum.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and program activities.
Encourage a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes self-confidence, leadership skills, and personal growth.
Communicate regularly with program administrators to provide updates on student progress and address any concerns or challenges.
Minimum Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in education, a related field, or relevant coursework.
Experience working with high school students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with and inspire students.
Proficiency in creating and delivering educational content.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse and multicultural environment.
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Passion for helping students succeed academically and reach their full potential, including the process of attending a 4-year college or university.
Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Safety:
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom environment.
No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Salary Range & Fringe
Benefits:
The rate of pay $45 per hour.
